![]() ![]() Background Rotary Club of Purulia over the years has earned a reputation among the people as “Saviour of Eyes”. Working towards eradicating Avoidable Blindness, Rotary Club of Purulia started its first permanent project, ROTARY CLUB OF PURULIA SERVICE CENTRE in the year 1982. This charitable eye clinic has turned out to be a boon for this rural and economically backward district of Purulia having served over 4.5 lakh patients. There are still many more people in the interior rural areas, who do not have access to good eye care facilities and need medical treatment as early as possible. Opportunity to serve is there, one only has to have the will to serve. Not forgoing any such opportunity to serve and make a difference in the lives of the multitudes, a proposal to develop another eye hospital in a rural set up was envisaged. A target has been set to perform 5,000 surgeries in the existing hospital and 10,000 surgeries in the proposed new hospital. ROTARY CLUB OF PURULIA, drawing from its rich experience of successfully running an eye hospital in Purulia for the last 25 years, now wishes to expand its services and take quality eye care facilities virtually to every door-step, especially to the rural masses. Inspired by a vision & mission to eradicate Avoidable Blindness from Purulia district, it envisaged the construction and development of an ADVANCED CENTRE for COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE in the rural background. To this effect land has already been purchased. Foundation stone laying ceremony and the inaugural function was held on 25th February 2006 and Eye camps at the site has been started from July 2006 with one camp every month to benefit the community there.
